Solving the structure of nanoparticles by multiple-scattering EXAFS analysis.

چکیده
The particle size effect on the coordination number in nanoparticles is much stronger for more distant coordination shells than for the first nearest neighbor shell. We show, using the EXAFS analysis of carbon-supported Pt and Pt-Ru nanoparticles, that it is possible to analyze the structure of monoand heteroatomie particles through the 4 ~ shell by taking into account multiple scatterings, and by using multiple edge refinement in the case of Pt-Ru alloy. Combined with the transmission electron microscopy and electron diffraction results, our procedure enabled us to obtain the particle shape and size in both types of the nanoelusters, and non-statistical distribution of Pt and Ru atoms in the alloy.

Solving the 3D structure of metal nanoparticles
We discuss methods of Extended X-ray Absorption Fine-Structure (EXAFS) analysis that provide three-dimensional structural characterization of metal nanoparticles, both monoand bi-metallic. For the bimetallic alloys, we use short range order measurements to discriminate between random and non-random inter-particle distributions of atoms. We also discuss the application of EXAFS to heterogeneous ...
متن کاملModeling the structure and composition of nanoparticles by extended X-ray absorption fine-structure spectroscopy.
Many metal clusters in the 1-nm size range are catalytically active, and their enhanced reactivity is often attributed to their size, structure, morphology, and details of alloying. Synchrotron sources provide a wide range of opportunities for studying catalysis. Among them, extended X-ray absorption fine-structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy is the premier method for investigating structure and compo...
متن کاملAnalysis and simulation of the structure of nanoparticles that undergo a surface-driven structural transformation.
A room temperature solid-state structural transformation was observed in 3 nm ZnS nanoparticles in methanol following the addition of water (Zhang et al., Nature 424, 1025, 2003). Experimental wide angle x-ray scattering (WAXS), x-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) and extended x-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy measurements show a large increase in crystallinity assoc...

Nanoparticles of coordination polymer [Co2(pydc)2(H2O)6]n.2n H2O [H2pydc = pyridine-2,5-dicarboxylic acid] have been synthesized by sonochemical method and characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, DLS particle size analysis and TGA/DTA. The structure of single crystalline coordination polymer developed from nanosized coo...
متن کاملAnomalous small- and wide-angle X-ray scattering and X-ray absorption spectroscopy for Pt and Pt-Ru nanoparticles
We have characterized the structures of two kinds of catalytic nanoparticles of Pt and Pt–Ru, using anomalous small-angle X-ray scattering (ASAXS), anomalous wide-angle X-ray scattering (AWAXS) and extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy. With several X-ray energies near the Pt LIII edge, the AWAXS data reveal a face-centered cubic (f.c.c.) crystalline structure for Pt nan...
